- Budget about €2,800 to €3,600 for the first year of a small, agency-built Dutch store, and from about €5,100 for a growing or multilingual brand, before payment fees, marketing and VAT.
- Shopify’s euro plans cost €24 to €289 a month on yearly billing, and Plus starts from €2,100 a month (October 2026).
- Shopify Payments lists iDEAL | Wero at €0.29 per payment on its euro rate card. Any other provider adds Shopify’s own fee, 2% of each order on Basic.
- Most apps bill monthly in US dollars, so price your app list for twelve months before you build.
The cost of a Shopify store in the Netherlands comes down to four things: a Shopify plan, fees on every payment, apps and a one-off design and build. Budget about €2,800 to €3,600 for the first year of a small Dutch-only store built by an agency, and from about €5,100 for a growing brand or a multilingual store with a large catalogue. Those totals exclude payment fees, marketing and VAT.
Below, we price each line of the Shopify webshop kosten, then add them up in three budgets. We build Shopify stores for Dutch brands, and every third-party price here was checked on the provider’s own page in October 2026. Our own prices exclude VAT.
What goes into the cost of a Shopify store
Five lines make up every budget, followed by ongoing costs after launch:
- Shopify plan: monthly, or 25% less billed yearly.
- Payment fees: per order, set by your plan and provider.
- Theme: free, premium or custom (part of the build).
- Apps: mostly monthly subscriptions.
- Design and development: one-off, plus extras such as languages and integrations.
Shopify plan prices in euros (2026)
Shopify prices EU plans in euros rather than converting them from dollars, according to its help page on local-currency billing. The price also depends on your store’s location, as Shopify’s Dutch pricing page notes: “De prijs hangt af van de locatie van je winkel”. Its Belgian and Irish pricing pages list the same euro prices:
| Basic | Grow | Advanced | Plus | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Billed monthly | €32 a month | €92 a month | €384 a month | From €2,100 a month |
| Billed yearly | €24 a month | €69 a month | €289 a month | Not listed |
| Extra staff accounts | None listed | Up to 5 | Up to 15 | Unlimited |
| Fee with another payment provider | 2% | 1% | 0.6% | 0.2% |
| iDEAL | Wero via Shopify Payments | €0.29 | €0.29 | €0.29 | €0.15 |
Monthly or yearly billing
Yearly billing costs 25% less: Basic comes to €288 a year instead of €384, and Grow to €828 instead of €1,104.
Which plan a Dutch webshop needs
Basic or Grow suits most new Dutch webshops; Grow adds up to five staff accounts. Advanced suits stores that need 15 staff accounts, live third-party carrier rates at checkout or lower card rates. Plus adds unlimited B2B catalogues and changes to the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout, which checkout UI extensions only allow on Plus.
Payment fees: iDEAL | Wero, cards and third-party providers
With Shopify Payments, iDEAL | Wero appears for customers with a Dutch address who pay in euros. Shopify’s euro rate card lists it at €0.29 per payment, or €0.15 on Plus. Online card payments cost a percentage plus €0.25, and the percentage falls on higher plans: on the Belgian page, 2% + €0.25 on Basic and 1.6% + €0.25 on Advanced. Card rates are set per country, so check the rates Shopify shows a Dutch store.
You can use another provider instead. Mollie’s Shopify app is free to install, and Mollie’s pricing page lists €0.32 per iDEAL | Wero payment and 1.80% + €0.25 for consumer cards from the European Economic Area (October 2026). But Shopify then adds a third-party fee to every order, which it doesn’t charge on Shopify Payments orders.

Shopify’s fee on each order paid through a third-party provider on the Basic plan, on top of the provider’s own rate.

Worked example: 500 iDEAL | Wero orders a month
Take 500 iDEAL | Wero orders a month at €60 each. Through Shopify Payments, the fees come to 500 × €0.29 = €145. Through Mollie on Basic, each order costs €0.32 plus 2% of €60 (€1.20), so €760 a month. On Grow that falls to €460, and on Advanced to €340.
Price the third-party fee before you choose a provider
The fee is a share of the whole order, so it grows with basket size. If you need a provider Shopify Payments doesn’t cover, budget the fee from day one and check whether a higher plan pays for itself.
Theme: free, premium or custom
The Shopify Theme Store has free themes, and paid themes cost $100 to $500 as a one-off (October 2026), billed in US dollars. Theme Store updates are free, but code edits that clash with a new version have to be copied across by hand.
A custom theme is built around your catalogue and brand, so it is part of the build rather than a separate purchase. A premium theme fits a small catalogue with standard pages; a custom theme fits when your filters, languages or product logic don’t match a template, like Ovabalance’s subscription selector with three ways to buy each product. Our comparison of custom Liquid and premium Shopify themes covers the trade-offs.
Apps: the monthly cost that grows
Most Dutch stores need reviews, email and shipping labels; some need subscriptions, translations or better filters. Paid apps mostly bill monthly in US dollars, sometimes with usage fees on top.
| Need | Free option | Paid example (October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Reviews | Judge.me Forever Free | Judge.me Awesome: $15 a month |
| Email marketing | Klaviyo, free up to 250 contacts | Klaviyo Email: from $20 a month for 251–500 contacts, rising with your list |
| Subscriptions | Shopify Subscriptions | Recharge Starter: $99 a month + 1.49% + 19¢ per transaction; Juo Standard: $199 a month + 1.25% + 19¢ per order |
| Translations | Translate & Adapt | Weglot: $17 a month for 1 language and 10,000 words |
| Filters and search | Search & Discovery | Boost AI Search & Filter: from $29 a month, priced by online sales |
| Shipping labels | Sendcloud Free: up to 20 parcels a month | Sendcloud Lite: €28 a month + €0.10 per label |
Real stores run more: Rehall’s live theme runs nine third-party apps, from Rebuy and Klaviyo to Gorgias and Returnista, and each one adds to the monthly bill.
Add up apps for twelve months, in euros
Shopify converts app, theme and domain charges from US dollars with a 1.5% currency exchange fee. List every app you plan to install, multiply by twelve and note which ones also charge per order or per label.
Design and development: what a build costs
Shopify development cost is usually the largest single line, and quotes for the same brief can sit thousands of euros apart because the scope differs: unique templates, catalogue size, languages, custom features, ERP or warehouse integrations and data migration. Ask for an itemised quote, so you can compare like with like.
Our anchors, excluding VAT: webshops on Shopify or WooCommerce start from €2,500, and websites on Webflow or WordPress from €1,500. Each project gets a fixed scope, a fixed price and a demo every week. A typical store goes live in 6–8 weeks, and you own the code. See our pricing or our Shopify development for Dutch brands. Unsure what your current store needs? Our €450 Website Growth Audit is credited in full to your build.

Extras: languages, migration and integrations
A multilingual store for NL, EN and DE
Selling in Dutch, English and German doesn’t need a higher plan. Country markets are available on all Shopify plans, without a limit on how many, and you can sell in up to 20 languages below Plus. Translate & Adapt is free, and stores in the Netherlands can translate up to 8 languages automatically.
The cost is in the work: translated URL handles, a native speaker’s review, layouts for longer German words and app content Shopify can’t translate. Our guide to the multi-language Shopify store covers each step.
Migrating from WooCommerce or another platform
Shopify’s WooCommerce migration guide offers a Store Migration app, in early access, that imports products; products with more than three options lose them. Customers move by CSV and order history needs a third-party app. Because Shopify’s link structure differs, every old URL also needs a redirect. Our WooCommerce to Shopify migration service plans that redirect map with you.
Shipping, accounting and ERP integrations
Sendcloud connects to Shopify with a free plan for up to 20 parcels a month, and MyParcel is free to register and charges per shipment for PostNL, DHL, DPD and UPS labels. A link to Exact, another accounting package or your ERP is usually custom work: we quote it after a scoping call, as a fixed line in the same quote.
Three first-year budgets
These are estimates, not quotes. Each column adds up the Shopify plan on yearly billing, the theme, the apps named and our starting build price; VAT, payment fees, marketing, maintenance and translation review are left out.
Still choosing between platforms? Put these budgets next to WooCommerce in our free Shopify vs WooCommerce cost calculator, which runs both over three years with iDEAL | Wero, Klarna and card fees.
| Starter | Growing brand | Multilingual, large catalogue | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The store | Dutch only, the Netherlands, a few hundred products | The Netherlands and Belgium, a few hundred products, subscriptions | Dutch, English and German, three countries, 9,000+ products |
| Shopify plan, 12 months | Basic: €288 | Grow: €828 | Grow or Advanced: €828–€3,468 |
| Theme | Free or Theme Store theme: €0–€450 | Custom, part of the build | Custom, part of the build |
| Apps, 12 months | Free plans, up to Judge.me Awesome and Klaviyo Email: €0–€380 | Judge.me, Klaviyo, Recharge Starter and Sendcloud Lite: about €1,790, plus usage fees | Boost filters, Judge.me, Klaviyo and Sendcloud Growth: about €1,740, plus label fees |
| Design and build | From €2,500 | From €2,500 | From €2,500, plus itemised extras for languages, import and integrations |
| First-year estimate | About €2,800–€3,600 | From about €5,100 | About €5,100–€7,700, plus extras |
Read the totals as floors. Most of the spread is the build: a starter store on a premium theme and a three-language store with a large catalogue are different projects, even when both start from the same price.
The large-catalogue budget in practice
Kampeerwinkel Roermond, an outdoor and camping retailer, is the third column in real life: we designed and built its Shopify store with more than 9,400 products across 14 departments, in three languages.
Case study · Shopify · Netherlands, Belgium & Germany
Kampeerwinkel Roermond: a three-language Shopify store
A camping and outdoor store built to stay easy to browse and quick to buy from in Dutch, English and German.
- 9,400+ products on one set of templates
- 3 storefront languages: Dutch, English and German
- 6 payment methods, including iDEAL | Wero, Klarna and KBC/CBC
Ongoing costs after launch
- Plan and apps: the monthly lines above, plus any app you add later.
- Payment fees: they grow with every order, so your choice of provider matters.
- Maintenance: theme fixes, app updates and small improvements. Our support and maintenance plans are quoted per site.
- Speed: every app and script adds weight. Kampeerwinkel Roermond’s desktop pages pass Core Web Vitals in Chrome UX Report data for the 28 days to 8 October 2026; if your store is slow, our Shopify speed optimisation service finds what to cut.
- Marketing: ads, email and content, budgeted separately from the store.
Price all of it on paper, for twelve months, before anyone opens the Shopify admin.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Shopify store cost per month in the Netherlands?
Shopify’s euro plans cost €32 to €384 a month billed monthly or €24 to €289 billed yearly, and Plus starts from €2,100 (Belgian and Irish pricing pages, October 2026). Confirm the price for a Dutch store on Shopify’s Dutch pricing page.
Is Shopify Payments cheaper than Mollie for iDEAL?
On Shopify, usually yes. Shopify Payments lists iDEAL | Wero at €0.29 per payment below Plus. Mollie lists €0.32, and Shopify adds its third-party fee: 2% on Basic, down to 0.2% on Plus. On a €60 order on Basic, that is €1.52 against €0.29.
How much does a premium Shopify theme cost?
Paid themes in the Shopify Theme Store cost $100 to $500 as a one-off (October 2026), converted to euros with a 1.5% fee, and Theme Store updates are free. A custom theme has no separate price: it is part of the build.
How much does it cost to have a Shopify store built?
It depends on templates, catalogue size, languages, custom features and integrations. With AvixDigital, a Shopify webshop starts from €2,500 excluding VAT, at a fixed price agreed before the build, and a typical store goes live in 6–8 weeks.
Does a multilingual Shopify store cost more?
Not in Shopify fees: country markets come with every plan, Translate & Adapt is free and Dutch stores can translate up to 8 languages automatically. The extra cost is the work, from translated URL handles to a native speaker’s review.
What should I budget for after launch?
Your Shopify plan, app renewals and payment fees, plus maintenance, speed checks and marketing. Review your app list once a year and remove apps that do the same job twice.
